When does Strategy (formerly MicroStrategy) buy bitcoin?

Strategy usually reports a completed period of bitcoin activity in a Monday SEC filing. The announcement schedule does not reveal an exact trading day.

The filing date is not the purchase date

Strategy’s routine update often arrives on a Monday and covers the preceding reporting period. For example, the filing dated September 28, 2026 describes purchases during September 21–27, 2026. It does not identify the time of each individual trade. Source: September 28 Form 8-K.

This distinction answers two different questions: “When did Strategy tell investors?” and “When did it execute the purchases?” Public weekly filings often answer the first precisely and the second only as a range.

Why Monday mornings matter

The SEC’s index for the latest weekly disclosure records acceptance at 8:00:16 a.m. Eastern on September 28, 2026. That is an example of the recent cadence, not a promised publication time. Source: filing index.

Holidays and other events can shift the schedule. The weekly disclosure after Labor Day was filed on Tuesday, September 8, 2026. It reported no purchases or sales for August 31–September 7. Source: September 8 filing.

There are also filings outside the weekly rhythm. The October 1, 2026 8-K concerns STRC dividends; it is not a new bitcoin-purchase announcement. Source: October 1 filing.

What to make of Saylor’s Sunday posts

Michael Saylor’s social posts can draw attention to the next update. They are not the transaction record used by this site. We report a confirmed purchase or sale from the filed disclosure and keep any unconfirmed signal clearly separate.

A chart image, wallet movement or social caption cannot establish the exact quantity purchased, the funding source or whether a custody transfer was a sale. Wait for the relevant company disclosure before treating those details as confirmed.

The company can report no purchase—or a sale

“No bitcoin activity” is a valid outcome. Strategy also reported bitcoin sales during 2026, documented on the sales page. It may still issue shares or buy back preferred stock during a period with no bitcoin activity.

For the latest answer, use this week’s filing. For each earlier period and its source, use the purchase-history table.
